The standard post format allows you to add a title, featured image, body copy and an optional excerpt.  The standard post is most commonly used when writing an article that primarily has text and images.

This is a gallery post format.  It automatically displays a sample of the first three images in the gallery.

The video post format functions like a standard post, though instead of a featured image it allows you to add a video.  The video is then automatically displayed and sized accordingly.

A link post format allows you to link directly to a file or website. This post format also allows you to have a description.
